Toboggan Chute in Cleveland, Ohio
Winter in Ohio can be a real downer; however, you can perk up your spirits with a toboggan chute in Cleveland, Ohio (located in the Strongsville Park). Our family picked up and went tobogganing one Sunday afternoon after we had enough of being indoors and having cabin fever. We were so glad we did because our winter adventure at the toboggan chute in Strongsville, Ohio, was one of the most amazing things we have experienced this year! FULL DISCLOSURE: Cleveland Metro Parks sponsored our tickets
Reservations are a timed ticket and do not guarantee no lines or no wait time. Your 1-hour reservation time is your time to check in at the ticket booth and pick up your pre-purchased tickets. You may toboggan for as long as you would like until close of that day.
What Are Toboggan Chutes?
What is a toboggan run? Honestly, until a few years ago, I had no idea anything like this existed, so I had to look up what these were. The simple definition of a toboggan run is a slope that you can slide down on a toboggan.
This might lead you to ask, what is a toboggan? According to Merriam-Webster, a toboggan is a long flat-bottomed light sled usually made of thin boards curved up at one end with usually low handrails at the sides. Toboggans look like sleds but are really in a class all their own.
Where Do You For a Toboggan Ride in Cleveland, Ohio?
So, now that you know what a toboggan chute and toboggan are, you probably want to go and do it! Let me give you the skinny on where to go and what to expect.
These toboggan chutes are ONLY located at the Strongsville Cleveland Metro Park and specifically at The Chalet in Mill Stream Run Reservation, 16200 Valley Parkway Strongsville, OH 44136. We drove from central Ohio, and after putting the address into Google maps, we made it without a hitch.
What to Expect at the Cleveland Toboggan Chutes
Since we had never been to the Toboggan Chutes in Cleveland, Ohio, we had no idea what to expect. For some reason, I thought it would be a bit like snow tubing. This could not be FURTHER from the truth. These are two exceptionally different experiences.
Be prepared to climb quite a few stairs (108 to be exact) because I was quite winded before reaching the top. As we climbed up, we saw signs that said, “Two-hour wait from here.” and “One hour wait from here.” Fortunately for us, our wait time was less than 40 minutes, and I felt like that time went by pretty fast.
The Toboggan Experience
Watching all the other people get ready and head down the toboggan chute had me really excited about the coming experience. I LOVE adrenaline rushes, and I was confident this experience was going to be amazing!
One of the best parts of the toboggan experience is you only must climb the stairs; everything else is taken care of for you. You don’t have to lift a finger to get ready, and the Cleveland Metro park staff takes care of everything!! I found out the toboggans can weigh up to 40 lbs. each, so I’m glad they do the prep.
And off we go!
Getting onto the toboggan was interesting. You can get up to 4 people on each one, and then you interlock your legs over one another and grasp the ropes on the sides. Thankfully the staff is very patient and thorough getting us situated.
Once you’re in place, the staff moves a wooden lever forward, and off you go. Admittedly, I screamed on my way down because it was really fast. You can hit speeds over 50 miles per hour on the chutes. Coming to a stop at the end of the chute, I found my eyes were watering from laughter and sheer excitement.
Tumbling off the toboggan, our family dashed off to do it again! Suffice to say; THEY LOVED IT!
