Best thing to do in Hocking Hills for the adventure seeker!
There are some adventures that take me by surprise and throw me out of my comfort zone, but they end up being something I never forget. Matt and I went on a hosted trip to Fairfield County, where we were invited to try a Jet Pack Water flight with Jet Pack Water Adventures in Lancaster, Ohio, located only 10 short minutes from Hocking Hills!
We love adventures and trying new things, so the quick answer was YES! However, once I realized what I was going to do, I started to have some doubts. Am I strong enough to do this? Is the instructor qualified? What is a jet pack water adventure anyway?!?
I am excited to share with you about our experience, how we did it, and my top reasons you should try it!

What is a Jetpack or Flyboard?
I had to do some research on this and found that there are two ways to fly. There are jetpacks and jet boards. Let me explain them to you because Jet Pack Water Adventures offers both ways to fly.
Jetpack: With this style, you wear it on your back, and it has a seat that you sit in. The pack buckles in the front. There will be two handlebars that come from behind to the front where you hold onto. Water comes out to nozzles that are on either side of the jetpack. The hose comes out the middle of the back of the pack and attaches to a jetski with a driver. This is the style of pack Matt flew with on his flight.
Flyboard: This is a board that you stand on, and your feet are fastened into. Water comes out the side of the bottom of the board, and the hose is connected to the bottom. The hose is connected to a jetski. This is a hands-free experience and very easy to use. This is the style of flight I chose!
How Do You Jetpack or Flyboard?
I’m not a professional fly boarder, so I will share what it was like from my perspective. Admittedly, I was a bit overwhelmed heading into this adventure. I am in my late 40’s and a grandma. Thinking about Granny Pucket from Hoodwinked was what kept me going, and I certainly don’t want my age to define me.
When we arrived, Jeremy, the owner, was there to meet us and help us prepare for our flight. As we walked up to the preparation area, Jeremy asked us to decide what style of the jet pack we would prefer to do. Matt took the jetpack, and I chose the jetboard.
Getting ready was pretty easy, and the instruction time was detailed but brief, which was great! Their teaching methods make it easy to learn; however, based on your learning curve will depend on you. Their website states, “qualified instructors can teach a new pilot to fly in as little as 6 minutes.” That is true.
Steps to flying were:
Instruction: brief but detailed
Suiting up: They provide a wetsuit and life jacket for you to wear
Shake off the jitters!
And FLY!
Thoughts From Our Experience and Why You Should Try It!
This was one of the most amazing things I did this past year. It was incredible. Explaining the feeling of flying with the propulsion by water is really hard to do. It’s like nothing you have ever done before. Seriously, ask any of your friends if they have done a jet pack water adventure, and they will ask, “What is that?” You’ll be one of the few who have experienced this!
Instructor can speak with you during your flight!
During my flight, I wore a helmet that had speakers in it, and Jeremy, the owner, was able to instruct me while I was flying. At one point during my flight, he had me up in the air and said, “dive down like your diving off a diving board.” I was like, WHAAAT! But being the adventurous type, I went for it. It was thrilling!
Flying around the lake was pretty cool. Lots of people will say, “you feel like a superhero.” I concur. You feel invincible as you fly all around.
Finishing up your fight is the worst part because you don’t want it to end! It had taken me a minute to get the hang of how to move my legs and knees, and once I had it down, I did not want to stop.
My TOP 3 Reasons You Should Give This a Try
#1 You will have tried something not many other people have done!
#2 It’s crazy and extreme but very easy!
#3 You will have learned a new water sport!
