Where to Stay at Punderson State Park

The Punderson Manor Lodge is a beautiful English Tudor-style retreat with 31 cozy guest rooms. You can enjoy a couple’s weekend, family adventure, or solo escape; the lodge provides a relaxing and perfect home base.  The rooms are updated with modern amenities preserving the historic character of the building intact. With an onsite restaurant, fireside seating areas, and indoor and outdoor pools, the lodge is a haven of relaxation.

For a more secluded stay, book one of the park’s 26 two-bedroom cabins, each with a spacious living area, a fully equipped kitchen, a private bathroom, heating/AC, Wi-Fi, and outdoor space. Some sit on the hillside, while others by the park’s scenic green spaces. Trust me, it’s a great option if you’re traveling with kids or planning a more extended stay.

Pro tip: Book early during fall foliage and summer weekends; they fill up fast! You need to bring your own coffee and food essentials if you’re staying in a cabin; to use in the fully stocked kitchen!

Lake Life Fishing, Boating, and Beach Days

Punderson Lake is a 150-acre glacial lake, perfect for all kinds of low-key water fun. You can fish from the shore, a small boat, or the accessible fishing pier. Look out for bass, bluegill, catfish, and stocked trout.

Boating is allowed (electric motors only), and if you don’t have your own gear, rentals are available during the summer months. For a refreshing summer dip, head to the Beach, a sandy spot where you can swim, relax, and soak up the sun.

Pro tip: Grab a chair and your morning coffee to catch the sunrise over the lake; it’s a quiet and peaceful way to start the day.

Trails and Outdoor Adventures

With 14 miles of hiking and walking trails, you can explore everything from thick woods to peaceful meadows. Some trails are paved and accessible, while others are more rugged. Keep your eyes peeled for deer, wild turkeys, and even the occasional eagle soaring overhead.

Nature lovers will also enjoy bird watching along the boardwalk trail or near the water’s edge, especially when migratory birds pass through in spring and fall.

Pro tip: If you visit in the spring, wear layers and sturdy shoes; the trails are stunning, but some can get muddy after rain.

Sports, Games, and Friendly Competition

If you’re someone who likes to stay active, Punderson won’t disappoint. Tee off at the 18-hole championship golf course, or try your hand at the world-famous disc golf course, which features Ohio’s only state park island basket!

There are also courts for basketball, tennis, and volleyball, and pickleball gear can be borrowed from the front desk at The Chalet. If you prefer a quieter sport, test your aim at the archery range (bring your own equipment).

Pro tip: Make it a challenge set up a mini family tournament across the different sports courts or disc golf course!
