Choffey’s Coffee and Confection

Choffey’s is a local favorite and has been in Delaware for over 10 years. Every time I come here, I feel so welcomed and drawn in with the smell of hot chocolate, Hemisphere coffee, Al’s Popcorn, and Marie’s Candies.

You’ll love the quaint and cozy feeling of this coffee and confectionery.

On this trip, I had an old fashioned hot chocolate paired with a chocolate-covered graham cracker.

Where is Choffey’s located, and what are the hours?

Fresh Start Cafe and Bakery

Fresh Start Cafe and Bakery is tucked in off the main street and owner Todd Daughenbaugh was looking for a “Fresh Start” when he opened the doors. Being plugged into the downtown Delaware community has created an atmosphere of family and local friends. They have been through the SURVIVE, STRIVE, THRIVE, and now REVIVE (thanks to COVID-19) stages of business and they look forward to welcoming you in with a cup of warm or frozen cheer.

I was mesmerized as I watched the house-made hot chocolate being prepared!  When that whipped cream was getting added to the top I could not wait to get sipping.

Everything here is made fresh daily and I don’t think you would be disappointed in anything you chose to order. It might take you a moment to choose from the deliciousness you’ll see inside the case!

What did I order? Hot chocolate paired with a seasonal biscotti.

Fresh Start Bakery located at 24 N. Sandusky Street, Delaware, Ohio 43015 and they are open daily from 7 am – 2 pm.

Coffeeology

Unique. This is how many describe Coffeeology and I would have to agree! Swinging open the door to this iconically located coffee shop makes you nostalgic. You’ll immediately notice the one of a kind items for sale throughout.

Coffeeology is known for hand-crafted drinks, specialty teas, and organic fruit smoothies only using the finest ingredients. However, I was here for their hot chocolate and I could not wait to get it made. They don’t mind if you linger here enjoying your beverage, so you can choose to get your drink in a to-go cup or a mug.

Once I got my hot cocoa I found a comfortable spot and sat down to sip. It was divine.

Pro-tip: pair your drink with the sea salt chocolate chip cookie!

Hamburger Inn

The Hamburger Inn Diner, what can I say about this place? A LOT! I remember the first time I came here, and I had no idea what to expect. However, once I opened the door, I was transported back into the 1930s. You’ll be welcomed in with a “Hi! Welcome to Hamburger Inn, sit wherever you would like.” Where do you sit? You cozy up to u-shaped counters with soda-pop style stools around each one.

I knew I was coming here for a hot chocolate; however, in my mind, I knew exactly what to pair it with! The famous homemade grilled cinnamon roll. This ooey, gooey roll was a perfect match for my hot chocolate.

Pro-tip: They have a peppermint hot chocolate; it is fantastic!

According to local gossip, they’re the oldest diner in Ohio!

Corner Cafe

While this little diner is not located in the historic downtown, it is right on State Route 36. It has been around for a long time, and you’ll find the warm, family-friendly atmosphere inviting. This family-owned cafe has Greek heritage, and when you scan over the menu, you’ll notice a Mediterranean flare.

I paired my hot chocolate with their homemade baklava, which is made fresh and served daily. You’ll be in heaven as your teeth sink into that crunchy top of phyllo dough; your mouth will burst with happiness as you savor each sweet, nutty bite.

Pro-tip: Please make a note of the hours! They are crazy different.

Corner Cafe is located at 535 Sunbury Rd. Delaware, Ohio

Monday: Closed

Tuesday and Wednesday: 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM

Thursday: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM

The Eclectic Diner and Sweeterie

Last, but certainly not least, is the Eclectic Diner and Sweeterie. Honestly, I love pulling up to a 1950’s style diner with the shiny silver outside and neon signs pointing the way in. Pulling open the door will start you down memory lane as you take in the historic feel of the diner. Take a seat at the soda-fountain style counter or wait to be seated in one of the retro booths.

So, I had the hot chocolate, but the owner came by and said, you’ve got to try our milkshakes; that is what we are really known for. She said she could whip up a hot chocolate milkshake to give this idea a special spin. The milkshakes here are fantastic.

Almost everything here is made in-house, and ingredients are locally sourced, making this a farm to table experience. Stover Farms is where they source their fresh meats and ice cream comes out of Riverside Creamery; both are located in central Ohio.

I would say the Eclectic Diner and Sweetry is Delaware’s most “hidden” gem.

Pairing Recommendation: Hot Chocolate Milkshake and their most popular burger: The Pike (it is a twist on the classic).

Location and hours: 755 US HWY 23 N. DELAWARE, OH 43015
Open Daily: MON-SAT 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
