Nestled into the rolling hills of Holmes County, Ohio is the Whispering Hills Jellystone Campground. This perfectly located campground is on the western edge of the largest Amish Community in Ohio and I’ve been wanting to get here since we purchased our Crossroads Sunset Trail travel trailer. Due to some changing plans, we grabbed 3 nights here.

Arrival and Check-In

Getting here:

As I mapped our route to Whispering Hills Jellystone Campground, I was reminded how winding the roads can be when coming to Holmes Couty, Ohio. My suggestion to any traveler is that you take US 71 to ST RT 30 or US 77 to ST RT 30. What am I trying to communicate here? Take the easiest and most well-developed route when coming to Amish Country. We encountered 2 horse and buggies in the short 6 miles from ST RT 30 to the campground. Caution when driving is always important BUT when you crest a hill pulling a camper, stopping on a dime can be a challenge. So, take the easy routes and please watch for the Amish.

The signage when arriving here is AWESOME! It was big and easy to see and the entrance is accommodatingly wide! Matt appreciated that. As you pull in you veer to the right and park at the entrance to the office. Our check-in on a Monday night was swift, easy and the front desk was very helpful! Maps to your site are well marked and navigation to our spot was flawless.

For Camp and tent sites: Check-in time: 1 PM and Check-out time Noon

For Cabins and rental units: Check-in time: 4 PM and Check out time 10:00 AM

Campsites and Set up

Whispering Hills Jellystone Campground has great sites to pick from and we chose one with a concrete pad. I am really glad we did because Ohio has had an unusual amount of rain recently. No matter how maintained a campground is rain+dirt=mud. I HIGHLY recommend that you book a site with the concrete pad.

Our site was 79 and was a full hook-up.

One thing that I need to note is that the sites are quite close together and if the campground was full getting a unit in might be challenging.

If you are familiar with Holmes County, Ohio you know that it has beautiful rolling hills. That being said we were pleasantly surprised with how level the sites are at Whispering Hills. Matt backed in the unit and we only had to use one set of blocks. If you know anything about camping in a travel trailer, you’ll know that it is very good!

Sewer, water, and electricity were located close to the unit and we were quickly connected. I appreciated the up to date connections.

Due to some travel issues, we got in kind of late and we were happy to find out they serve Hunts Brother’s pizza. I quickly ordered two for the family and it was delicious. Having options like these after a long drive or difficult set-up makes an evening at camp more relaxing.

Throughout the park:

I would be happy to camp anywhere in this park. Personally, I am not a big fan of setting up in the grass and those sites would be my last pick, however, if that’s all that was available, I would book them.

We took a bike ride and I loved the rustic tent sites that are located in a nicely wooded area. It looked perfect for a weekend away.

Bathrooms and Laundry:

There are plenty of bathrooms sprinkled throughout the park, and they are extremely clean. I did not use the showers, however, I noticed that the handle is the push button style and that did not appeal to me.

Laundry rooms are great and I find that I need these when traveling with kids.

Whispering Hills Jellystone Campground Amenities

Let’s talk about amenities because Whispering Hills Jellystone Park Campground has them! As I walked around and enjoyed the property, I was very impressed with all the facilities and things to do.

Swimming Pool: It is not very often we find a place that has a lifeguard on duty at the swimming pool and this was a pleasant surprise for us.

Putt-Putt Mini Golf: This sweet 9-hole course of mini golf is fun for the whole family! Play is included in your nightly rate so make sure to take advantage of this amenity. The course is lit for nighttime play and is a good way to work off your supper.

Disk Golf: A 9-hole course is here waiting for you and is very nice. Disk golf is a perfect way to spend the evening.

In-Ground Jumping Pillow and Pad:  Jumping pillows are always a favorite for the little people and even though my kids are almost too big for it, I enjoy watching kids launch themselves on this.

Gem Mining: Kids love this and even my teenagers will occasionally pony up the money to look for gold.

Fishing Lake: Stocked with bass, grass carp, and panfish this Whispering Hills lake is ready for you to throw in a line!

Volleyball, Gaga Ball, and Basketball courts: If your family wants some competitive sports, they have you covered.

Hiking Trails: I love hiking and the paths here were perfect for me to take evening walks. This will be something that will draw me back to Whispering Hills Jellystone Park

Playground: Sprinkled throughout the park are multiple playgrounds. My grandkids would love them.

Outdoor Movie Theater and Arcade: located by the camp store are these two great places to send the teens.

Dog Park: Perfect set up for Fido! We are glad they are pet friendly.

Things to Do in Amish Country

No stay here at Whispering Hills Jellystone Park is complete without a day trip into Amish Country or to the outdoor canoeing capital of Ohio! There is so much to see and do within a short driving distance that you won’t be disappointed choosing to stay here for your base camp.

Berlin and Charm:

Our day trip took us to Chalet in the Valley restaurant, Keim Lumber, Hershberger Truck Patch, Boyd and Wurthman’s, and Troyer’s Market just to name a few stops!

We recommend grabbing a travel guide from the Whispering Hills general store before taking off on your day out and about.

Mohican and Loudenville:

If you choose the more adventurous route to outdoor fun in the Mohican State Park area, I recommend a hike to Big Lyons Falls in the morning and kayaking or canoeing for the afternoon. I have not rented from the canoe liveries there for a while, however, we have used Mohican Adventures in the past and I thought they did a great job.

I have to share a local gem called Weaver’s Basic Food. It is a short drive away and offers up everything you would need for the weekend. If you forget anything, don’t panic, just head to this sweet little place for whatever you might have forgotten in your camper’s kitchen!

Whispering Hills is a great place to camp and use as a base camp for adventures around the surrounding area. The campground is clean, well maintained and the amenities here for kids are perfect! I can certainly see us camping here again with the grandkids in the future.

Ohio’s Amish country is the perfect place to camp and enjoy the peaceful countryside and I have to say, Whispering Hills Jellystone Campground is the place to be!

Happy Adventures,
