Winter can make you crazy, with freezing temperatures and blowing snow, cabin fever can set in pretty quickly and you want to find a place to escape. Our family was going as crazed as bats in the belfry and I was looking for a location to head to for some winter fun instead of winter dread. Punderson Manor Lodge was a place Matt and I have always wanted to go, so we decided to head there for our winter getaway.
This beautiful manor in Geauga Co, Ohio is stunning. When we drove up the whole family in the GMC Yukon began exclaiming how amazing and breathtaking the setting and lodge were. Our family tumbled out of the vehicle and hurriedly clamored up the steps to enter into the lovely wooden door that opens into the foyer.
In the movies you see people making a grand entrance into a scene, that is the emotion we felt as we came through the beautiful wooden door. Music was softly playing, a fire crackled on the hearth, guests were gathered to play games at the tables and the staff was about making sure everything was just right. We had booked a cabin for our family and for a moment I thought, I’d have loved to stay in the lodge. (That thought was fleeting, kids in a standard room OR a 2 bedroom cabin?)
As soon as we arrived, Abbie had a diabetic low blood sugar so we grabbed some lunch in the restaurant. The dining room was so welcoming and warm, the ceiling was intricate and so detailed (make sure you look up if you eat there!) and windows span the side of the manor so you have stunning views of Lake Punderson. The waitstaff was very attentive and helpful, this was a huge help since Abbie was not feeling 100%. Food there was delicious and we knew we would be back to eat there again before our stay was over.
Prior to coming we had connected with Mike, the GM there and he gave us the $10.00 tour. I enjoyed seeing everything Punderson Manor offers for guests. We were delighted by an indoor pool, beautiful views of Punderson Lake, fire pits on the terrace and quaint rooms, each decorated differently. It charmed us and Matt and I will come here without kids someday to stay in the Manor. We want to enjoy the little nooks and quiet things we did not get do on this trip.
Punderson Manor Lodge offers 2 bedroom cabins with a full kitchen, full bathroom, living room and screened in porch. Each cabin comes with a picnic table, firepit and outdoor charcoal grill that can be used, weather permitting. We were in cabin 13 where we had a stunning view of Punderson Lake, the Iroquis trail and the stately trees that surround it.
Our cozy cabin was perfect for our family with plenty of space for everyone to spread out and relax. The kids bedroom had 2 bunk beds where they each could go off and rest in, which cuts down on the fighting. Our room had a queen size bed and TV, where we could unwind after tucking in the kids. The kitchen space was perfect for us because had planned on keeping this trip on budget by cooking in the cabin. This space was exactly what we were looking for. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for our family getaway! (We did most of our shopping at a local butcher shop Heritage Meats ) Our living space was ample and the whole family sprawled out for a movie one evening after we had done the FREE snowtubing at Punderson State Park sledding hill a mere 1/2 mile away.
Many of the cabins are pet friendly and knowing you can bring Fido along on the family get away relieves some stress. When it comes to traveling with pets, they take the worry out of the equation. There is an additional fee of $15.00 per pet, per night (maximum of two pets per cabin), you can have your best friend tag along while enjoying winter fun in NE Ohio!

Punderson Manor Lodge was the perfect location for our family winter get away! We were able to get the winter crazy out of our system, enjoy the beauty of Punderson State Park and everything it had to offer and site see around Geauga Co, while using the Manor as our base camp! If you make it to Punderson Manor Lodge we hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
